Fine makeup art

  1. Introduce yourself My name is Traci Fein and I am a Chicago-based freelance makeup artist working in print, film and special event makeup.
  2. 2. How did you get started?  I started as a fashion model here in Chicago, but always had an interest and a flair for makeup.  I was chosen to go to Paris, and worked there, as well as Tokyo, Barcelona and Italy.  I got to work with some of the best makeup artists in the business, and I learned quite a bit. This is the kind of expert training that you can’t obtain in a beauty school.
  3. What makes you unique in your industry? In the wedding industry, I am unique because I have a strong background in fashion and photo makeup and years of experience.
  4. Three words that describe your business Skill, professionalism, and dedication.
  5. 5. What is your favorite part of the wedding process concerning your job? When I am finished doing the makeup, packing my kit, the Bride gets dressed and her mother looks at her beautiful daughter with tears in her eyes. I am touched every time.
  6. Most difficult part of your job? Mind reading!  Part of my job is to “read” the Bride’s style in a few minutes, and get her look right at the trial run before I am commissioned to do wedding day makeup.  What is “natural” to one Bride, may be “glamour” makeup to another and vice versa.
  7. Do you twitter or facebook etc..? I love Facebook. It has put me in touch with a lot of old friends, and many new ones.

We highly recommend Fine Makeup Art for your wedding day! Check out her website!

This week vendor spotlight presents: Music by Design

David J. Savoia of Music by Design has many years of experience to make your wedding receptions a memorable one!

music by design

  1. Introduce yourself Name: David J. Savoia owner of Music By Design, Ltd.
    website: www.mymusicbydesign.com
  2. How did you get started? As with every successful business, our story begins with passion, market research, and a business plan. In doing our market research, we discovered some very interested facts. First, most DJ companies in the Chicagoland area did not even have a plan or a marketing strategy. Second, these same companies hired independent contractors, which created a lack of accountability within the industry. Finally, the majority of the DJs in the area did not know what brides and grooms really wanted. As a result, competing companies were telling clients what to buy without regard for customer demand.  At this point, our opportunity to appeal to a new market was clear. We began conducting marketing research to determine what brides and grooms really wanted out of their reception
  3. Do you twitter or facebook etc..? Twitter: http://twitter.com/MusicByDesignDJ , Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Geneva-IL/Music-By-Design-Ltd/57523888846?ref=ts
  4. What is playing in our office? Everything and everything. We love all music. One day it is classical and the next hip hop.
  5. What is a common mistake bride and grooms make? Not allocating enough budget for the DJ. The DJ is a “make or break” for every reception.
  6. What do we love most about working at Music By Design, Ltd.? While most DJs are playing “cookie cutter” receptions with the same music at every reception, our customers can customize their wedding to reflect their taste. Every wedding is different. That is the definitely the best part of being at Music By Design, Ltd.
  7. What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten? Definitely the best piece of advice is to “Listen”.

We highly recommend Music By Design for your wedding! Check out their website!

:: vendor spotlight : GnG Designs ::

We are happy to announce that we will be featuring a vendor every Wednesday.

The first one is Gina from GnG Floral Designs. With 15 years of experience in the floral business, she stands out as an unique, creative and with a natural eye for color and design.

GnG Designs Florist

  1. Introduce yourself Hello, I am Gina Alcantara, owner/founder of G-n-G Designs, email- Gina@GnGDesigns.com , website- www.GnGDesigns.com
  2. How did you get started? I got my start over 17 yrs ago working in a grocery store floral department in my birth state of Ohio.  At the time I was in College studying Art and worked at a local grocery store in the food section.  The Floral department at this store was very enticing to me for some reason and eventually I got that job that was calling my name!  I started by watering plants and in 5 years took the position of manager and during that time had developed a true love and passion for the art of flowers.   Since I had developed a love for wedding design, I moved to the “Wedding capital of the World”, Las Vegas.  I designed many weddings on the “Strip” at a historical wedding chapel.  It was also in Las Vegas that I received my education and certification for wedding and advanced floral design.
  3. What makes you unique in your industry? I am committed to every detail.   I perform every consultation, pick out, design, and set up all of the flowers.   This set up, in my eyes, produces the most creativity and allows no room for miscommunication along the way.   Personal and professional service for every customer is most important to me.
  4. Three words that describe your business- Creative, Value, Personable
  5. What is your favorite part of the wedding process concerning your job? I truly love the art of floral design.  The flowers speak to me, like a brush to a painter.  There was a magical moment that occurred after the very first time I had decorated a wedding hall.  After everything was in its place and ready for the big celebration, I turned to look at the finished room and fell in love with the feeling of my accomplishment and the beauty of all of my hard work that all had come together from the images in my head.  I knew then that I was blessed with a gift and knew in that very moment where the rest of my life would take me.
  6. What do you love most about your job? I get to do what I love!  And since I work from home it allows me to spend more time with my son which is extremely important to me.
  7. Tell me 5 random things about yourself: 1. I am extremely passionate about cooking, especially healthful and nutritious meals.  2. I love to shop- my weaknesses are purses, shoes and jewelry.  3. I enjoy spending time with friends and family.   4. I am a perfectionist.  5. I have a fear of large bodies of water- no cruises for me!
  8. How would you describe your work? Clean, Fresh, Modern and Premium
  9. How many weddings do you take a year? 35 per year on average

10.  Your favorite quote? “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”

We highly recommend GnG Designs for your floral needs!  Check out her website!
